Attention Eighth Grade Parents:  Graduation gowns have been distributed to those students who purchased them. Please remove them from the bag and hang so the wrinkles can be eliminated by the time graduation day arrives.  Thank you!

Graduation message to parents of Shepherd eighth graders....Information regarding graduation preparations has been mailed home.  Included were details regarding graduation attire, practice information, and ticket distribution.  Contact the school office if you did not receive this information.  

Tryout information for various 2012 - 2013 sports teams was included in the registration packet that will be sent home with 7th grade students. Reminder...A current physical is needed at the time of tryouts.  A download can be found on our webpage.
Parents...please be aware that when a lunch account reaches a negative balance of over $5.00 your child will be served a peanut butter sandwich, fruit, and milk for their lunch. Please be aware that your child's lunch balance can be checked by accessing the Parent Portal or feel free to contact the Shepherd office.

Should you encounter any problems with the Homework Hotline please contact the Shepherd office.

Normal hours for the Shepherd office is from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Shepherd has breakfast! All Shepherd students have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy breakfast before the school day begins. Be aware that your child's lunch account balance may be impacted with this new offering.

SHEPHERD PHONE SYSTEM: Parents are able to phone in absences outside of the school day. Dial the Shepherd number (1-815-434-7925) and follow the prompts provided. Should you experience any difficulties with the phone system please notify the Shepherd office. In addtion, parents and students are able to call the HOMEWORK HOTLINE to obtain homework assignments from teachers. Refer to the magnet for individual teacher's extensions. The magnet will be sent home with student schedules at the beginning of the school year. If you do not receive a HOMEWORK HOTLINE magnet contact the school office.


PURPLE CORD PROGRAM FOR SHEPHERD STUDENTS:
Shepherd has initiated a new community service program for Shepherd students. It is called the Purple Honor Cord Service Program. This program has been established to recognize the outstanding contributions that our students at Shepherd Middle School give back to the school and community by way of volunteer hours and community service participation. Those students who have completed 100 hours of service hours wear the Purple Honor Cord at graduation.This program is voluntary and students must complete the hours of service within the two years of middle school beginning the summer prior to entering Shepherd. Forms to record service hours are available in the school office. Contact Mrs. MacDavitt, school counselor with any questions.

Parents:  
Students are NOT to be on school grounds prior to 8:30 a.m. unless they are arriving for extra help or morning room detentions.There is no student supervision provided prior to 8:30 a.m. Please remind your student that if a cell phone is brought to school it needs to be turned off and kept in their locker. Disciplinary action may result if this school rule is violated. You are always welcome to contact me either by phone or email. Email address is lkimes@d141.lasall.k12.il.us


school bus w kids.gifNEW SCHOOL BUS PROCEDURES
FOR SHEPHERD AND CENTRAL SCHOOLS

With the completion of the new bus lot we will be implementing the following changes to student drop-off and pick-up at Shepherd.
 
Bus:
Buses will utilize the parking lot behind the building between Shepherd and Central.
Students who ride the bus will enter and exit through the doors on the south side of the blue hallway, orange hallway and  cafeteria.  
When exiting the buses use the striped pedestrian pathways. Never walk along the side of a bus while in the lot.
Car Riders:
Current procedures will not change.
Drop-off will be along the exit lane on the west side of the building. Do not drop off in front of the building.
Students will enter through the north cafeteria doors as usual.
Pick-up will be in the west parking lot.
Students will exit through the doors in the front of the building or through the gym lobby.
Walkers:
Shepherd will be providing two new crossing guards on McKinley road. One at the intersection of Route 23 and McKinley and  the other to cross McKinley directly in front of Shepherd.
Students who walk must exit through the doors on the North side of the building.
Students who walk will enter through the cafeteria doors on the North side of the building.


No student should arrive prior to 8:30 as there will be no outside supervision.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR'S CORNER

Sports are an extension of the classroom. Lessons are learned on the court, field, mat and any place where an athletic competition takes place.


All tryouts require a current physical and proof of insurance form. Insurance forms were sent home with incoming 7th graders and interested 8th graders. If a form is needed, you can print the attached pdf forms from your home and send them to your students coach or please stop by the Shepherd offi

PARENTS: Students trying out for any sport must have a current physical on file before they can practice or tryout. Please make a copy of your students sports physical before you turn it into the coach or school office. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated!
